How I look at games
I base my reviews for games on a few different design principles. First and foremost is the overall storyline of the title. I play games mostly for the story so if it's not present or well put together/ described then it's tougher for me to get into it as a gamer. Next is the overall presentation of the game. This includes both audio and visual cues. I look for unique ways in which audio is utilized and if the graphical identity of the game matches what it's going for overall. The next thing is overall gameplay aesthetic. This includes such things as running and jumping in a Mario title or upgrading weapons in Ratchet and Clank for example. There are some titles that draw me in with gameplay right out of the gate before I delve into story. Lastly is replayability and longevity. I make it my mission to own and play games that are hefty in content both on disc and from dlc. If i'm paying 60 bucks for your game then it better be worth my hard-earned money. This includes total playtime and other things such as number of quests, missions or extra side activities to accomplish. From these four categories I come up with a score on a 1-10 scale. I allow for .5 scores such as a 9.5 for Dishonored or a 7.5 for the Legend of Korra game. This allows me to better grade a title with extra points that more accurately shows what I think of the title.
